Prevent Automatic Disconnects After Checking Email

Most email programs can be configured to automatically disconnect from the Internet after all email has been received and sent. If your computer is disconnecting from the Internet every time you send and receive email, then you have this feature enabled. If you want to disable this feature, you will need to change the setting within your email program on your computer.

Instructions for EudoraWindows or Macintosh

  1. Launch Eudora.
  2. Click the “Special” menu.
  3. Choose “Settings” from that menu.
  4. A dialog box appears. In the left-hand column, scroll down until you see the icon labeled “Internet Dialup.” Click that icon.
    For Windows
Uncheck the option labeled “Hang up after sending and receiving.”
    For Macintosh
Uncheck the option labeled “Disconnect my Internet dialup software after checking mail, if Eudora connected it.”

Outlook ExpressWindows

  5. Uncheck the option labeled “Hang up after sending and receiving.”
